elastic band - anyone an idea how tough that has to be?

I am trying to use stuff that I already have in my stash. Fabric: ist supposed to be jersey but looks more like a double knit (its quite tough, not so strechy). I'll try that one. The elastic bands I have are in comparison quite loose. What do you think do I have to go to the store to get sth with more strength?

Hello. Have you tried comparing the strength and stretchiness of the elastic with waistbands in clothes you already have to see if it might produce a similar fit?
